Due to the Stage IV Emergency Area Fire Closure of Coronado National Forest because of extreme fire danger, which was effective June 9 to July 31, we were unable to hold Field Day at our usual Bear Wallow location in the Santa Catalina Mountains.
The CRC/RST Field Day Team decided to hold a reduced-scope Field Day at Owen Watson AK7AR's compound just west of Sahuarita. He has several stations and antennas already operational in air-conditioned comfort, and exterior room for plenty more. We operated in Class E (home station with emergency power), allowing use of existing infrastructure as well as portable antennas with the stations run on emergency (generator) power. We had 8 stations set up and available for use.
Our intention to take the lack of Mt Lemmon and make lemmonade out of it was successful, we had a FINE time doing Field Day in the 107F desert, and still placed FIRST in the FUN category!
